A large crowd had gathered around the billboard in the main hall of Ouran Academy. You spotted one of the twins at the back of the crowd and tapped his shoulder. The twin turned to face you and grinned.  “What’s going on Hikaru?” you asked and his golden eyes widened a bit, he still couldn’t seem to get used to you being able to tell him and Kaoru apart. Hikaru rubbed the back of his head with a small laugh. “Well, the announcements about who will be playing what role in the upcoming play has been put up,” Hikaru explained. You snapped your fingers and smiled. “Oh right, I can’t believe I forgot. You tried out right?” you replied and narrowed your ___ colored eyes at him teasingly. Hikaru nodded his head and smiled, his eyes glancing around for Kaoru. The two of them had tried out and he had wanted to look at the paper with his brother so they could both found out at the same time, but said twin was nowhere in sight. “Come on ___,” Hikaru said suddenly and grabbed your hand. You blinked in surprise when he intertwined his fingers with your own.

Hikaru and Kaoru were very close and even considered themselves to be against the whole world, they often didn’t let people befriend them or get close to them… you were an exception it seemed. Both Hikaru and Kaoru are mischievous and playful, but Hikaru is the more boisterous one, as well as being selfish, stubborn, and immature.  Kaoru is the calmer of the two, he is also kind, understanding, and often much more mature than Hikaru, despite being the younger brother. You thought that maybe part of the reason these two twins let you into their ‘little world’ was because you could tell the difference between them no matter what trick they did to try and throw you off. Now, you lost your train of thought when Hikaru tugged you forward, causing you to stumble a bit. Hikaru forced his way through the crowd of people, staying ‘excuse me’ while flashing the girls a smile that he only used while in the host club. This got many of the girls to either move to the side or just pass out

Suddenly Hikaru stopped and you peered around him at the sheet of paper. Hikaru stared at the paper dumbfounded. ‘How could this happen?’ Hikaru thought; shocked and finding himself unable to move. “What?” you asked and studied the list again.

The lead role of the prince will be played by… Hikaru Hitachiin
Understudy for Prince… Tamaki Suou
The heroine lead role of the princess will be played by… Renge Houshakuji
Understudy for princess…
The role of the warlock will be played by… Umehito Nekozawa
Understudy for warlock…
Guard 1 will be played by… Mitsukuni "Honey" Haninozuka
Understudy for Guard 1… Yasuchika Haninozuka
Guard 2 will be played by… Takashi "Mori" Morinozuka
Understudy for Guard 2…

And the list continued like that, but nowhere on that list did you see Kaoru’s name, and this is what you think upset Hikaru. “Ah… Hikaru?” you asked and looked up at him. His face had gone pale and he looked as if he was holding his breath. Lightly you reach up and place a hand on his cheek to get his attention. “Are you okay? Take a deep breath,” you said to soothe the twin and he let out a big breath of air that he hadn’t realized he had been holding in. Slowly Hikaru nodded and shoved some of his hair out of his face. “Surely.. this is a mistake!” he shouted and clenched his fists at his side. This caused several students to glance towards the two of you. You shook your head and rested your hands against your hips. “The theatre teacher does not make mistakes Hikaru, you got the part and will have to study your lines from the script now,” you told him, confused as to why he was acting this way. Yes you knew he was childish, but you still thought he would be excited about getting the lead role. Suddenly Hikaru turned and ran away from, shoving several students out of his way as he did so. “Hikaru!” you called after him and took at step forward. A hand placed on your shoulder stopped you and you turned to see Mori shake his head at you.

Kaoru turned around and laughed when Hikaru ran up to him and tugged him into a tight hug. “What’s wrong Hikaru?” he asked and gently patted his twin’s hair. Hikaru sniffled and rested his head against his brother’s shoulder. “You didn’t get a role in the play…” Hikaru said quietly and ignored a few girls who ‘aww’ed at the sight of him and Kaoru together. Kaoru raised his eye brows and nodded, lightly shrugging his shoulders as he continued to pat his brother’s hair. “I know, there’s no reason to cry about it. You will do splendidly and better than I could ever do. Didn’t we just talk about becoming more independent?” Kaoru soothed. Hikaru’s golden eyes widened. “You asked the teacher to not give you a role?” Hikaru asked, stunned. His head shot up so that his eyes met Kaoru’s. Kaoru smiled and nodded his head. “I didn’t do it to upset you, I did it to help you,” the younger twin insisted. Hikaru pulled out of Kaoru’s hold and gave a huff, crossing his arms over his chest as if he hadn’t just gone to cry to his brother. “Pft, well you didn’t have to go do something so stupid like that,” Hikaru grumbled and glanced over at Kaoru out of the corner of his eyes. Kaoru placed a hand on Hikaru’s back and gave him a slight shove. “You have a script to learn, go study it. I’ll explain to Tamaki-senpai why you can’t make it to club today,” Kaoru teased.

You lowered yourself onto the bench, school had ended and Hikaru had demanded that you meet up with him here after school. Now you tucked a ___ colored strand of hair behind your ear and sighed. Why did you bother to follow his orders? Because, if you didn’t, Hikaru would come after you and make you follow his orders himself. Said twin sat down beside you on the bench and held out the script so that it was in your face. “What?” you asked and tried to peek around the paper to see his face, but he kept moving the script so that you could only see the words rather than his face.  A bright shade of red had spread across Hikaru’s face and he certainly didn’t want you to see it. “Practice the script with me… please!” he said, adding the ‘please’ at the end as a second thought. ‘He actually wants my help’ you thought and laughed softly. “Fine, fine, just get that out of my face,” you agreed and glanced over the lines of the princess. Hikaru waited until his cheeks returned to their regular color before setting the script on his lap.

The twin cleared his throat and read the first line on the script. You scooted closer so that your thigh lightly brushed against his and you read the following line that the princess would say. Hikaru glanced over at you while you read the script, his eyes traveling down to stare at your lips. A nudge to his side caused his eyes to widen and he quickly returned his gaze to the papers in his hands. “Your line is next,” you informed him with a laugh. So much for studying the script, he was hardly even paying attention. Hikaru let out a huff and his face went light pink out of embarrassment. Now Hikaru shifted so that he was lying down and his head lightly rested on your thighs as he read the next few lines. You tilted your head slightly to get a better look at the script and read the following lines, absentmindedly stroking his messy auburn hair. Hikaru tried to remain focused on what the two of you were reading but failed miserably.

“You have a date with ___?” Kaoru asked and rested his chin in the palm of his hand. The two twins sat at the kitchen table eating breakfast rather quietly. Hikaru had dressed a bit nicer than usual and was shoving food into his mouth in a hurry. Due to the question, Hikaru choked on a bit of cereal and coughed harshly, lightly hitting himself on the chest. Finally Hikaru managed to swallow the piece of cereal and took a deep breath of air. Kaoru found this scene to be rather funny due to the fact that such a simple question had caused such a serious event to happen. Hikaru’s face went bright red and he shook his head. “I-It’s not a date Kaoru! She is just helping me learn my lines for the play!” Hikaru shouted and waved his spoon in Kaoru’s direction as if to threaten his twin with the silverware. Kaoru smiled and rolled his eyes. “Right, are you even learning them or just paying attention to ___? You’ve been studying with her for two days now and she knows the lines for the princess- she isn’t even in the play,” Kaoru teased and gave his brother a wink.

Hikaru pouted, he couldn’t hide the fact that he had a crush on you from his twin but he didn’t need to be lectured by his twin. “I know some of them,” Hikaru insisted and stood from the table. He handed his bowl off to one of the maids so that she could wash it and he scooped up his backpack. Kaoru set down his own spoon. “Have you told her yet?” Kaoru asked and Hikaru gave him a wave as he retreated out of the house. Kaoru chuckled and picked up his spoon again before stirring his bowl of cereal. Yes, the two twins had decided to become a bit more independent but it still sort of saddened Kaoru to think that his twin didn’t need him quite so much. Not too long ago, all the two of them had was each other, but now Hikaru had you. Kaoru liked you, you are a kind person but you were stealing his twin from him. Slowly Kaoru leaned back in his chair and glanced out the window. “As long as Hikaru is happy…” Kaoru told himself.

---

“Kaoru, what are you doing here?” you asked the twin that approached you. Currently you sat inside a ice cream shop waiting for Hikaru, and rather than whom you expected, the other twin showed up. “What are you talking about ___? I am Hikaru,” the twin insisted and sat across from you. Once again you rolled your eyes and gently kicked the twin under the table. “Kaoru, stop pretending to be your brother. This trick may work on others but not me,” you told him. Kaoru let out a sigh and lightly brushed his fingers through his hair so that it was now parted to the right like he usually did. “Okay… but ___, how is Hikaru doing?” Kaoru asked and glanced out the window. He had to keep an eye out for Hikaru, besides he did sabotage his twin to get here first and couldn’t afford Hikaru to see him talking to you. “He’s doing fine Kaoru. He is learning his lines and becoming more confident, though he still needs to work on projecting his voice a bit more. Though, I don’t think you came here to talk about the play..” you said and frowned. You studied him carefully with your ___ colored eyes, trying to figure out the look you saw in his eyes.

Kaoru turned his gaze to you then out the window again, he had to be quick. “Right, look ___... take care of Hikaru for me, okay? He looks up to you and likes to hang out with you a lot, don’t let him down,” Kaoru said, an intense and serious look on his face. You were utterly confused, but slowly you nodded your head. “You can count on me Kaoru, we’ve been friends for while. I thought you’d know that by now,” you said and ruffled his auburn hair. Slowly a smile spread across his face and most of his worries vanished as he stood up. “Thank you ___,” he said and placed a kiss to your forehead because of how grateful he was. Kaoru left the ice cream shop as quickly as he had arrived, leaving you stunned.

You shook your head to clear your thoughts before ordering yourself and Hikaru some ice cream. The bell above the door rang softly, signally the door had opened once again and you turned your gaze to see Hikaru all out of breath with his hands resting on his knees. “Are you alright?” you asked in surprise, holding an ice cream cone in each hand while you stood in front of him. Hikaru’s golden eyes gazed up at you and he held up a single finger as if to say ‘one minute’ while he caught his breath. Finally Hikaru stood upright and wiped a bit of sweat from his forehead. “Sorry I’m late ___, my driver got completely lost and then we ran out of gas… I was afraid that I’d be late and you’d leave,” he explained, looking truly sorry. You held out one of the ice cream cones and his golden eyes moved away from your face and to the treat. He hadn’t expected you to get him something. “Oh… thank you..” he said and reluctantly accepted the treat. You smiled and motioned him over to the table before sitting. “I forgive you Prince Hikaru, now say your first line before I change my mind,” you replied which caused him to smile. Hikaru was glad you forgave him and he licked his ice cream happily before reciting his first line with ease, he didn’t even have to look at the script.

---

Honey lightly tugged on Hikaru’s shirt and laughed. “Stop fidgeting Hika-chan, you will ruin your costume!” Honey scolded him and smiled. The short blonde boy placed a hat on his head and patted Hikaru on the arm. “You know all your lines and you look great! Your outfit is cute… is mine cute? I want to look really cute because the teacher wouldn’t let me bring my cute little Usa-chan out onto the stage,” Honey said, trying to calm Hikaru down. Once again Hikaru tugged at the collar of his shirt, feeling as if it was choking him. Mori squatted down beside Honey, holding Usa-chan whom would have to remain back stage. “Usa-chan thinks you look cute,” Mori told the blonde. Honey giggled and gave Mori a hug. Tamaki was sitting in the corner crying because he was a simple understudy and would not be able to be on stage tonight. Hikaru was almost tempted to just tell Tamaki to go ahead and take his role due to how nervous he was. The teacher started ordering people on stage and made sure the scene was perfect; the play would be starting soon. “Ah.. Mrs..” Hikaru started but before he could complain about not feeling good, Honey pulled him on stage. The teacher rushed out from behind the curtain and announced to the audience the name of the play and that it would be starting in a couple of minutes.

Hikaru took his place on stage and ran a hand through his hair while Renge took her place on the other side of the stage. Soon the music started and the large red curtains opened up. He studied the audience and easily spotted you, Kaoru, and Kyoya in the front row clapping. Hikaru gulped and turned towards Honey and Mori who had started to say their lines. With a shaky breath, Hikaru said his first line, at first it was quiet but he eventually projected his voice and looked a bit more confident. You smiled and practically squirmed in your seat, you were so proud of him. Renge started to talk and Hikaru held up a hand. “W-Wait Renge…” he said and the teacher gasped, this was not part of the script. Hikaru tugged at the collar of his shirt while Renge pouted and put her hands on her hips. “What do you mean stop?” she asked, outraged. Hikaru turned to the audience and his golden eyes met your ___ colored ones. “I.. I can’t go on with the play unless my real princess is up there. ___ ___, please come up here,” Hikaru said and sat down. He slid off the stage and the spot light followed him until he was standing right in front of you. Hikaru held out a hand and you glanced around at the quiet audience. Kaoru nudged your arm. “Go,” Kaoru said. Slowly you took Hikaru’s hand and allowed him to pull you onto the stage with him. Renge’s outraged face slowly became a sly smile and she let out one of her loud, annoying laughs.

“Aw, I see now, this is perfect! Hikaru, a host is in love with ___. I rather liked your brotherly love act at the Host Club, but I’d like to see this,” she said and a small round of applause echoed throughout the theatre. Renge stepped off stage and you turned to face Hikaru, whispering. “You love me?” you whispered and his face went bright red. He rubbed the back of his neck and nodded. “Yes, I do actually and I’ve been meaning to tell you but I couldn’t seem to be the brave prince I needed to be in order to tell you,” he whispered back and took your hands in his. He leaned forward and placed a kiss to your lips, pulling you close to him. Kaoru whistled and clapped loudly, causing many people to laugh and also applaud.

The two of you finally pulled away for air and you recited Renge’s next line. The rest of the play went smoothly and Hikaru didn’t mess up even once, he even stopped messing with his costume. Once the curtains swung closed; Hikaru pulled you into another kiss and dipped you like any prince would for his darling princess. You smiled into the kiss and raised your eye brows when he pulled away. “___, will you be my girlfriend.. my one and only true princess?” he asked. You wrapped your arms lightly around his neck and teased him by not answering right away. “Of course Hikaru,” you told him and placed another kiss to his lips.

Nekozawa who was standing beside the two of you moved his cat puppet so that it was close to your faces. “Allow me to curse anyone who gets in the way of your love,” he said causing the two of you to pull away. Your ___ colored eyes widened and the two of you stared at the weird student. He couldn’t be serious, right?

End.
No Kaoru does not have a crush on you, he was simply worried about whether or not you would be right for Hikaru and would take care of his brother. So this is the HikaruXReader, Kaoru is being a pain in my butt, I can’t think of a plot that I think would be good for Kaoru but I will figure it out. Next a HoneyXReader will be next.

I like comments, I would love to read what you all think.
