The gate is wide
The road is paved in moderation
The crowd is kind and quick to pull you in
Welcome to the middle ground
You're safe and sound and
Until now it's where I've been

You yawned softly and removed your forehead from the table before smiling up at the teen in front of you. The younger teen has short black-brown hair, with a flyaway curl on the right side of his head. "Da-ze! ___, did you hear anything I just told you?" said the happy go lucky Asian country. You smile apologetically and shook your head. "Sorry," you told him honestly and watched a pout cross the Korean's face. He leaned forward and flailed his arms a bit making the extra long sleeves of his shirt flip around a bit. "I said that you should drink more of your coffee! You are falling asleep," he told you and narrowed his bright brown eyes at you. You giggle at his flailing and picked up the cup of coffee he had bought you, taking a big sip. The boy grinned at you and reached over, picking a leaf out of your hair and tossing it aside. "Now ___, what do you think about Japan?!" Korea asked and leaned forward so that his face was closer to yours. Your ___ colored eyes widened and you leaned away from him, coughing and choking a bit on the coffee you had just taken a sip of. Now you looked away from the Asian country and rubbed the back of your head with a nervous laugh. "Well, he is a really good friend of mine Korea. He is always here for me and very kind," you replied and gave him a grin. A pout spread across his face, this obviously wasn't the answer he wanted. "I know that, but do you… you know.. like love him?" he persisted and flailed a bit. A shade of pink, similar to the color of a cherry blossom danced across your cheeks and you choked on yet another gulp of coffee. The boy grinned and stood from the chair, holding an arm up towards the sky.

"You do! I knew it, this is just like my wonderful dramas…" he said, starting one of his speeches about how wonderful the country of Korea is and a chuckle escaped your lips. You waved a hand to cut him off. "You couldn't have possibly invited me out to coffee just to talk about my love life.. right?" you asked and grabbed one of his flailing arms. Korea grinned and winked a brown eye at you. "Of course I did, besides, Japan is family and you are my best friend," he replied and hooked pinkies with you then pressed his thumb to yours, a Korean pinkie promise. You blinked your ___ colored eyes in surprise and your ___ colored eyes met his caring brown ones. "I promise I will help you and Japan! Da-ze!" he promised confidently, releasing your pinkie. Instead of grabbing your pinkie again, he grabbed onto your breasts. You squeaked, still not used to your best friend's habits and shoved him away from you. "Grabbing me inappropriately will not help me!" you scolded him.

'Cause it's been fear that ties me down to everything
But it's been love, Your love, that cuts the strings

Korea grinned and held out his fist. "Let's play Kai Bai Bo- which is basically rock paper scissors! If I win, I get to chose what we do all day. If you win, then you can chose what we do and whether or not we continue this conversation about your love life," he said and placed his hand behind his back. you did the same and raised your eyebrows, trying to figure out why he seemed much more concerned than usual about your business. I won't lose ___~! Best two out of three wins. Kai Bai Bo!" Korea cheered. After Korea said 'Bo' you both brought your hands from behind your back and his hand was in the rock position while your hand had been in scissor position. Korea smirked and stuck his tongue out in your direction. "One for me! Kai Bai Bo!" he told you and shot his hand out in the paper position. This time you had done the scissors position again, meaning you won that round. 'Tied,' you thought with pride and placed your hand behind your back once again. Korea's confidence didn't falter though as the two of you said in unison "Kai Bai Bo!" Your hands shot out and Korea held out scissors while you held out paper, assuring his victory. Korea jumped up and down. "Da-ze! I win!" he cheered grabbing your breasts. You smacked his hands away and rolled your eyes with a huff. "Okay, fine fine, what are we doing?" you replied suspiciously. Korea pulled out a cell phone and examined the screen, careful not to let you see what he was looking at. "We are going to get some sushi!" he exclaimed finally, freeing you of your curiosity. You frowned and picked up your coffee cup. "W-What? Why sushi? Where is all of this coming from?" you sputtered

Once Korea dragged you to the restaurant, you recognized it immediately. This particular place was the first place where you and Kiku had gone out to eat when you decided to be friends. "Korea…" you whispered as he grabbed your hand and grinned. He shook a finger in your face as if to say don't talk and don't worry before pulling you into the restaurant. After you two were seated you picked up a menu and smiled when you spotted the sushi that Japan had suggested that you should eat. "Lunch is on you!" Korea told you with a laugh then ordered food for both himself and you, making sure to get some sushi. Korea stayed oddly quiet and your thoughts wondered.

You sat across from Kiku and studied the menu. "I've never had any of these so I don't know what to get," you admitted with embarrassment and a shade of pink spread across your face. Kiku looked up from his menu and smiled before turning his menu to face you, pointing down at the sushi. "The sushi here is very good... if you would rike to try some," he suggested and fidgeted a bit in his seat. You smiled and nodded your head though you continued to blush because you had never tried any kind of Japanese food. "R-Right, thank you for the suggestion," you told him. Once the waitress walked over, the two of you ordered sushi. Now you leaned over the table and tilted your head curiously at him. "Can you please tell me more about your country please Kiku?" you asked him. Japan smiled fondly, loving his country and the fact that you wanted to learn more about him. He happily explained as much as he could about his country without boring you. One of your favorite things about Kiku is his humble and honest personality. Japan picked up his chopsticks and broke them apart while he continued to talk, studying you with his warm, welcoming brown eyes. You broke your own chopsticks and gasped in surprise when you dropped one of the sticks. "Aw man," you mumbled, even more embarrassed than before. Japan chuckled and held out one of his chopsticks to you. He smiled a bit and said, "Here, you can use mine." You knew that you could easily just ask for another pair of chop sticks but the offer was still sweet so you couldn't help but accept his chop sticks. "Thank you, you are very kind Kiku," you told him and reached out to hug him but then dropped your hands to your sides since he didn't like being touched. Japan smiled thankfully, glad to have a great friend like you who understood him, was sweet, and respected his boundaries.

I am small
And I speak when I'm spoken to
But I am willing to risk it all
I say Your name
Just Your name and I'm ready to jump
Even ready to fall...

After the two of you had eaten, you had asked Korea multiple times if he had picked this place for a specific reason and why he kept looking at the phone but he wouldn't supply straight answers. All he kept sayings is 'Don't worry about it! Da-ze!' He grinned at you and pointed his sleeve at you… you assumed he was pointing a finger at your face but you couldn't see it because of his sleeves. "Are you up to singing some karaoke?!" he exclaimed and your eyes widened. 'No way!' you thought frantically and turned to run for your life. Your best friend knew you all too well though and grabbed your arm before you could escape him. "Not ah ___! We are going and that is final!" he instructed you while dragging you down the side walk, earning the two of you odd looks from innocent pedestrians. You dragged your feet to try and slow down the determined marching Asian. "I haven't gone to do Karaoke since…"

"Ve! Come on it will be so much fun!" Italy cheered to the Axis powers and you. A nervous smile crossed your face and you shook your hand in front of yourself. "No no no, I really can't sing," you insisted and Italy pouted in your direction. How could you say no when me makes a face like that?! Japan looked just as unsure about this ideas as you did so you smiled at him. "What do you say Kiku? Will you come with me and the others? I'm sure it would be so much fun to see Italy and Germany sing together," you teased and tilted your head at him. Japan smiled a little as he studied the happy look on your face, he could see the hope in your eyes, that you really wanted him to come. A light shade of pink spread across his cheeks and he glanced up at the sky. "I'll come," he said smoothly and both you and Italy cheered happily. Once the four of you had reached Italy's destination, Italy turned to you with bright brown pleading eyes. "___! Won't you sing with me?! Pretty please?!" he begged and grabbed onto your hands. When you had agreed to come, you hoped you wouldn't have to sing and would just be able to watch but Italy had other plans. "I… Italy.. um.. I can't.." you sputtered with a bright red face. A hand was placed on your shoulder and you turned to face the person, surprised to see that it was Japan whose hand now rested on your shoulder. Kiku flashed you a gentle smile and he studied you with calm and encouraging brown eyes. "I know you can do it ___, You have sung for me before and this time will be no different. If it makes you really nervous… you can sing to … me," he suggested as a light shade of pink spread across his face.

Why did I take this vow of compromise?
Why did I try to keep it all inside?

'Sing to Kiku?' you thought frantically. It was true that you had sang to Japan a couple of times and you had been embarrassed, but you had enjoyed seeing the happy look on his face while he listened to you. Slowly you reached up and placed your hand over his that still rested on your shoulder while flashing a bright smile at him. "Okay," you agree and Italy studied he shades of pink that ran across both yours and Kiku's faces. Italy could practically feel the special connection between the two of you and the grin on his face became a knowing smile. "Come on ___! Let us sing a love song! Italians are the best when it comes to love, no matter what France says!" he cheered and pulled you up onto the stage. Germany moved over to stand beside Japan with his arms crossed as he watched his energetic team mate drag you away. "What do you think of ___?" Germany asked, trying not to sound nosy or inconsiderate. The red faced Japanese man fidgeted a bit at the question and avoided looking into the German's blue eyes. "What do you mean Germany-san?" he asked even though they both knew what he meant.

Korea had sang his heart out and thoroughly enjoyed himself, to the point that now his voice was a bit gruff and much quieter than usual. "Korea, you are so much quieter than usual!" you teased your best friend and laughed when he swatted your finger away so that you couldn't poke his cheek. He checked his phone one last time and grinned over at you. "We are now going to our last location and we will be meeting someone there," Korea told you in the loudest voice he could muster which wasn't even half the usual volume he had. You looked around as the two of you walked, trying to figure out the last location. Korea's phone went off and he moved away from you to answer it, you had no idea what he was talking about but you had heard him say 'Hong Kong'. He kept glancing back at you which caused you to become suspicious. He finally returned to your side and continued walking like nothing had happened, causing you to have to follow. "Korea, I have noticed that all of the places you have taken me to so far… I've been to these places with Kiku, and at first I thought it was just a coincidence but now I'm thinking that you planned all this out from the very beginning. Why are you doing all of this?" you asked and studied the mischievous look in his brown eyes. Korea stopped at a nearby park with you and squatted down under one of the cherry blossoms. Your best friend scooped up a stick and began lightly swatting at the grass with a stick, a thoughtful look on his face. "I asked you what you thought of Japan earlier today. Well, I know you really like him ___! Have you noticed that you are different around him? You smile and laugh a lot more, you are even kinder than usual, and you should see the way you look at him," Korea said and looked up at you with a fond smile. You weren't sure just what to say about him, he was your best friend after all so you knew he would figure out sooner or later, especially since he is related to Japan. "I just want you and Japan to be really happy ___! Just like he hasn't noticed that you like him, he likes you too. I'll let the two of you talk…" Korea said and pulled the phone out of his long sleeve so that you could see that he had been in a call the whole time the two of you had been talking. The person he had been on the phone with currently was 'Honda Kiku' meaning he had heard the whole conversation between the two of you. You stared at Korea with wide ___ colored eyes. He shrugged his shoulders with a sheepish smile. "I'll have to thank Hong Kong for helping me get Japan to the park, he is just over there under that other cherry blossom tree," Korea said and gave you a light shove in the direction.

I've never known a fire that didn't begin with a flame
Every storm will start with just a drop of rain
But if you believe in me
That changes everything
So long, I'm gone

You don't know how you hadn't noticed Kiku before, but Korea was indeed telling the truth. After taking a very deep breath, you approached Kiku and smiled shyly. There was a long awkward silence between the two of you and surprisingly the first person to break the silence was you. "Korea can be quite troublesome and likes to become involved with people's lives…. But today I have to thank him. I really do like you Japan and I understand if you don't want to start a relationship because you have boundaries and such but hear me out first. You have done a lot for me, you have encouraged me to be myself, smile and try to make every day the best day it can be, I have learned not to take friends for granted, and to be brave. Due to you, I am brave enough to stand before you right now and tell you my true feelings Kiku, I love you and you need to know this," you said hurriedly. Japan's brown colored eyes had widened and his face a bright red color, almost comically and for a moment you thought that perhaps you had broken him. "Watashi wa anata o aishite imasu," Kiku murmured and held out a bouquet of flowers that Hong Kong had shoved into his hands before leaving Japan at the park. You had learned a few phrases in Japanese because you loved hanging out with Japan and loved the sound of his language so it didn't take long to figure out that he had just said 'I love you'. Already you knew you would have to take the relationship slowly to get past Kiku's boundaries but you would be willing to do that for however long it would take and you would never be able to thank Korea enough. You leaned forward and placed a kiss on Kiku's cheek. "Watashi wa anata o aishite imasu, thank you Kiku," you whispered and gently brushed his black hair out of his brown eyes so that you could see the loving look in his gaze.

:iconshadow-fan-girl-16: requested a JapanXReader quite a while ago and I am so sorry for not getting this up so much sooner. I've had writers block for Japan but I've finally finished and I hope it will be good to you and that you will enjoy it. Not my best work Dx Thank you :icontiff234: for help and inspiration for this story and just being your lovely self that I adore.

In a nut shell: Korea figures out you like Japan and decides to play matchamaker by taking you to places that you and Japan had been to together in order to make you realize your feelings for Kiku.
