Part 1

"The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread."
-Mother Teresa

You carefully tied your red apron securely around your petite frame and pulled all your ___ colored hair over your shoulder. Your ___ colored eyes stared back at you as you carefully clipped in an orange colored flower into your hair. Today was like any other day, every morning you would go to work at the Meido no Hitsuji, a small maid café owned by a man by the name of Waka. Unlike Shin and Toma, you are just a part time college student and do all your classes online so that you had time to work a job and be able to support yourself in a little apartment. You didn’t mind your job mostly because there were people there that you enjoyed being around such as your best friend.

The café was quiet for the most part because today you had arrived early. You smoothed out your apron and stepped into the front of the café to help Waka set up. “If you're going to ask me why he isn't here, don't," you heard a familiar voice say. When you glanced around the front of the café you saw Shin speaking with your best friend. Breaking eye contact from the now pouty and flustered girl in front of him who threw names at him like 'snarky bastard' or 'big fat meanie' followed by a 'you're so cruel to me, no girl will ever want to date a guy that disrespects her so', Shin found his eyes roaming around the small café for a certain person, you.

Unlike Toma whom overslept and had to go straight to college, Shin had more than a few minutes to spare. Meeting Waka's intense gaze, he made sure to throw a quick wave his way. Shortly after, he took his usual seat and crossed one leg over the other and waited for a maid to greet him, he was quite sure that your best friend probably won't talk to him for at least an hour since he knew she was sensitive. It would take a completely dense person to not see that your best friend greatly disliked Shin who usually was being towed around by Toma. Carefully you walked over to the other maid and gave ___ (Best Friend’s Name) shoulder a soft reassuring squeeze along with a smile.

Now you made your way over to Shin’s table and gave a small bow. You are usually very quiet if not silent but Waka insisted that you use your ‘lovely’ voice just as the other maids do. “Good morning master, I hope you are doing well this morning,” you say softly. You stood back upright and offered a menu out to the teen. “I’m sure you will find something to your liking master.”

Tipping his head back as an eyebrow quirked up in curiosity, Shin slid the menu from your grasp and laid it onto the table, not even looking at it more than twice as his eyes bore into yours from where he sat. "I'll have what I always have,” he stated bluntly. Lowering his eyebrow and resting his elbow up against the booth seat, he thought maybe he if elaborated more you would understand. Even though you served him every time he came here with Toma, he knew that not many girls could remember repeating occurrences. "Coffee. Not black. Add a little cream and a bit of sugar. Don’t go overboard,” he added. The sharp teen could feel the look on his face become a leer. He couldn't help it, it always happened when he stared at something for too long.

"And also, you're not always this talkative. Did something happen? Is Waka paying more to use your voice more? I can see why. Quiet girls are seen as a burden and are often pushed around because no one can make out their personality enough. Assuming the majority of you all have no back bone...” rambling on and on, it seems he remembered that he was in the presence of a maid, and quickly shut up. Shin could feel a redness in his cheeks threatening to break through. Honestly, he didn’t mind that you were all that quiet, he just liked to hide this fact with insults.

Toma would always laugh at him for throwing insults and elaborating and rambling, then becoming embarrassed when he finally stopped to realize that he was in a one-way conversation. He snapped, "Go already..!" Then he adjusted himself to sit forward in his seat, now refusing to look at you. You gave a small smile when the look in his eyes changed at the slightest and his cheeks even with pink, embarrassment was quite obvious in his eyes and due to his quick dismissal.

“No need to worry master, I can assure you that I am not pushed around because of my lack of talking,” you replied easily and gave a small bow. In all honest, you did remember Shin’s order and didn’t have to be told. It hadn’t taken long for you to memorize his order since he repeatedly ordered the same thing and because when you first started serving him he didn’t hesitate to send the coffee back every time you messed up. Because of the first two to three days that he did this, you had mastered his order and prided yourself in being able to do it perfectly now. With ease and caution you carried the coffee back into the front and over to his table. Now you placed the coffee gently down on his table; you noticed he had regained his composure.

Shin snatched the coffee from the table oh so gently and glanced at its contents. Wasn’t too dark, wasn't as light as milk he observed. '___ did ok, at least she doesn't mess it up like before....' he thought to himself before pressing his lips to the rim of the cup and letting a small amount of coffee pour into his mouth before swallowing. He rested the cup back on the table and gave you a nod in approval. "What's with that look? I thought that you would become more talkative now?" he asked. You bit your bottom lip lightly and glanced up at his face… however, instead of his usual scowl, he gave you a little smile.

He began tapping his foot against the seat across from him, the seat Toma usually sat in when they came to visit. "Take a seat,” he said and motioned to the chair with his eyes. He wanted to at least have a 3 minute conversation with you. He glanced back down at his watch, he had to be at the college in 15 minutes. Knowing himself he would make it. Plus, there weren't many people out today or at least in the little cafe for the most part. Waka shouldn't have a problem with you having a seat and chatting with him for just a bit. "Are you going to sit down or not?" he snapped. Shin hoped that he broke any time of thought processing that you had going through your because he didn't have much time. “Of course master, sorry to make you wait,” you finally answered and lowered yourself into the chair across from him.

You could tell that he was in a rush and it made you a bit uneasy. Lightly you adjusted the orange flower pinned in your ___ colored hair and tugged all your hair over your right shoulder. Carefully you folded your hands in your lap and gave him a small smile. “Was there something you wanted to talk about master?” you asked hoping that you hadn’t done anything wrong. You knew you hadn’t messed up on the coffee because he didn’t shove it back at you and demand that you make a new cup. “Is something bothering you?” you inquired kindly.

Shin twitched at you repeated calling him 'master'. Funny how you knew him and insisted on calling him that silly little name when Waka wasn't even around to correct you. “Just... Don't call me that name when Waka-San isn't around ___. It can get annoying, alright?" He hissed out that last part. However his face had no malice what so ever. In fact, Shin could feel himself getting a little wide eyed. You lightly rested your elbow against the table and your cheek against the palm of your hand. Really, you knew that calling him ‘master’ got on his nerves quite a bit but Waka-san had practically drilled it into his employee’s heads that they were to greet people and refer to them as so when in the café, even their friends. “Sorry Shin, it’s a habit.”

"May I ask why you work here, anyway?” he inquired suddenly. You met his eyes with your own ___ colored ones easily as you considered his question. “Why…? This place is close to my apartment and there are many interesting people here... plus money is money. I need to pay for my online college classes somehow. Besides how would I seem my friends’ everyday if I didn’t work here? Even you come here,” you said slowly and twirled a strand of your hair around a finger. Lightly you bite your bottom lip because you knew that sometimes people got annoyed when you talked slowly. You didn’t talk slowly all the time, only when you were sorting through thoughts and figuring out how to word what you want to say. It half shocked Shin that the same girl that had be so quiet just a few seconds ago was bombarding him with so much information at the moment. However on one side it didn't shock him too much because he knew that's how you can be sometimes. Especially with him...It was a funny thing, really.

"You may be right, but there are also other places around here close to your place that are more accepting. Is it that you like to dress up in maid costumes and calling everyone by 'master’?" he continued and glanced at a clock hanging on the wall. Flickering his eyes back up to you, he teasingly told you "However, I don't mind if you keep working here, I just don't think that it suits you... but one thing for sure is that your maid dress suits you." He quirked an eyebrow as a little smirk spread across his face, almost daring you to come up with a snappy remark. Your face flushed deeply and you resisted the urge to tug at the uniform you were required to wear. “There are many other places I could work at, that is true but I’d rather work at a place where there are some familiar people even if I am required to wear a maid uniform,” you replied.

“Why do you work here? Perhaps ‘you’ just like seeing all of us girls in a maid uniform rather than because of the pay,” you scolded jokingly and gave a small smirk. You leaned over the table a bit and raised your own eye brows. “Are we done with this odd conversation of yours? I am supposed to be working and the place is starting to fill up a bit more,” you added. Instead of coming up with a snappy remark, the boy allowed his shoulders to loosen up a bit before he drawled out, "Perhaps... What if I do enjoy watching you and other girl's prance around in your maid outfits..? The uniform suits all of you... some of you...” Shin stopped midway through his sentence before he pushed away from the table, and got onto his feet.

He didn't want to piss off anyone, mostly his professors for being late. "And it didn't seem like you minded this odd conversation, taking into consideration how your face lit up pink when I said that maid dress looks good on you," he stated, his voice was low, and sounded like a hiss. It didn't match his smirking face. Upon seeing the shocked look on your face, he chuckled. "I'll deal with you when I get back here later for my shift. In the meantime, try not to mess anything up around here. I don't feel like hearing Waka's mouth," muttering that last part and his tone signaled that this was indeed the end of your conversation with him. “I can do my job just fine thank you, you don’t have to worry. You are starting to sound like Toma,” you said softly and laugh. He and walked out of the small shop, giving you a side glance before focusing on the outside world.

---

Shin shuffled his way down the street in a hurry. He knew that he would be a little late but now he was really pushing it when it came down to college. Sure the professors didn't really care and that was just fine with him, but when it started to affect his grading, that's where he had a problem. He dodged a lot of things, a dog, a pregnant woman and her three children, a car that was about to hit him, and something that he didn't quite get to glance at because his main focus was getting to that college. "Hopefully Toma saved me a seat, with all of his planning," he mumbled as he high legged it upon seeing the campus come into his sights.

Shin silently thanked his long legs and rushed straight into the building. Since he was already late he didn't bother checking in with the office. The most awkward part for him was entering a classroom that was about to end in the next 15 minutes. It was bad enough that on the way to his seat the teacher was sending him dirty looks, disapproving of a late student however quickly shoving it off and going back to the lesson... but not before informing the raven haired boy that he was late. "Thanks for letting me know the obvious...” he growled under his breath, and ignored a few stares he had gotten from the other students. Slipping his notes out, Shin glanced at Toma to see him engrossed in something. No doubt the notes he had missed in the time that he didn't show his face.

The raven haired persona of the heart would have blamed it all on you, if he hadn't been the one to push his time limit at the cafe just to have a mocking conversation with you he wouldn’t be late now. But he had to admit, it was a bit worth it - just to see that blushing shocked face of yours. Shin noticed the teacher glaring at him, and he quickly began catching up with the classes pace. Dammit... He'd have to get the notes from Toma after class ended. Besides, he never really knew about that guy. It was as if Toma had his own little world inside of his mind half the time. It was so hard to tell if he was really focused or day dreaming. The professor dismissed the class and all the students rose while collecting their supplies. Toma on the other hand scooped up his bag and moved to the other side of the room. Carefully the blonde plopped down in the chair beside Shin’s and leaned back on two legs of the chair.

Continuing his paper, Shin began to write more furiously as Toma sat down next to him and began conversation. ‘Damn it, ___,’ His thoughts chimed lowly in his brain. After a long sigh, Shin gave Toma a side glance before he answered him, and started up with his writing's again. "My visit to the cafe was fine. Do you have the notes from when class started? If you haven't noticed I'm trying to remember enough of what that tight-ass of a professor said,” he grumbled, but Shin made sure that Toma could hear him. He would have been happier, had he had not been late. But that was his fault. The raven haired teen ran a hand through his high-lighted hair, as if he was frustrated for some reason. Toma raised his eye brows at Shin and couldn’t keep a grin from spreading across his face as a small chuckle escaped from his lips. The fact that most of their classmates have already left didn’t bother him. He shrugged his backpack off his shoulders and pulled it onto his lap.

Now he shifted through all his belongings and pulled his not book back out before placing it on the desk. With ease he flipped open to the page he had briefly taken a few notes. He wasn’t sure just how much help it would be to Shin but at least it was something. Now he leaned back in his chair and gently rocked his chair on the back two legs once again. “What’s bothering you?” the blonde responded and tilted his head. He glanced up at the professor still in the front of the room then back towards Shin’s face.

It wasn't like Shin to want to yell at Toma right away. Normally after a nice conversations, and maybe if they were lucky after their shift was over at the Cafe. But right now, all he wanted to do was throw the blonde haired male persona of diamonds his notebook back in his face and storm out. Shin let his long highlighted bangs fall a bit unto his face to cover up one of his eyes and began writing the carefully taken notes that were written by his brotherly friend. "Nothing is bothering me," he said firmly, not interested in having a conversation about a certain maid. It was hard enough for him to write down these notes and not understand a thing they were trying to inform him about. Shin flinched when he turned the page, then slowly turned his head to Toma with a scowl etching across his handsome young features.

As Toma raised his eyebrow at Shin, who didn't hesitate to pick up the notebook and show the blonde the page... immediately pointing to his frowning sketch counterpart. "Really? Is this what you do when you don't have anyone to mess with?" he snapped as he stared at the grumpy looking chibi. A twitch in his eyebrow told him to calm down or do something about it. However, instead of being impulsive, he just shook his head and closed the book, along with his own notebook and other belongings that were still out on the large desk. "I'll finish these after the first shift."

Toma grabbed his own notebook and tried to shove it into his bag. Instead all of his belongings and he was having to scoop them all off the floor. Shin was standing impatiently at the door with his arms crossed. The raven haired teen stepped aside though as the professor left the room. Toma pulled his bag over his shoulder and stood before catching up to Shin. “I’m coming, I’m coming,” he said with a grin. Shin and Toma had this little deal going when something is bothering them. If Toma didn’t press further on matters that bothered Shin, his friend would do the same in return. This is why he didn’t continue the topic about Shin being even more grumpy and snappy than usual. With a quick, "Yeah." Shin shoved his hands deep within his pocket's and got moving, making sure him and Toma were walking at the same pace so no one felt left behind.

His thoughts flashed back to the doodles Toma had drawn in the book. Did he really frown that much? Shin was under the impression that his face was just blank, like Kent's. Perhaps not. With a sigh, he shrugged into his jacket and looked up at the beautiful blue skies. Just a few more seconds and he would end up in that suffocating butler costume that Waka had them wearing. He never put up a fight with him, since one he was his employer, and two, it was sort of comfortable at times. The down fault is having people stare at you. It was as if he had a constant bug on his face or something, and they just wouldn't stop looking at him.

Toma Shin’s shoulder a light shove and he narrowed his eyes. “___ is kind of a hard person to understand and has changed a lot over the years. She’s not the same little girl I remember but she is still ___ all the same,” he said and stopped at a pedestrian crossing. He bounced lightly on the balls of his feet while they waited for the signal to change from an orange hand to a walking person so they could cross the street. Shin frowned. How had Toma known that his visit with you was what was on his mind and bothering him? The blonde took the few remaining steps to the café and tugged the door open before stepping inside. A grin spread across his face when he was greeted by ___ and her best friend at the door.
Here is something completely different, my first Reader insert story for a character from the anime Amnesia. Shin was my favorite :P. This was written by myself and :iconj--jade:. It is closely follows a roleplay the two of us are doing together. Most of Shin's parts were written by her and edited by myself. As for the reader, that was all me haha. When I write stories I usually always make the reader a rough tough cream puff and so I decided to make more of a quiet less confident character. Hopefully you will like it. There will be 3 parts to this story and 3 parts only!

Pt. 1 You are Here
Pt. 2 fav.me/d6now6t
Final Pt. 3 fav.me/d6np1u8

Comments are greatly appreciated and we will take the time to read each and everyone of them.

Shin and any of the other characters from the anime Amnesia are not owned by us and belong to their creators. The preview image also isn't ours and was found on google.
