Until the day I die
I'll spill my heart for you
Until the day I die
I'll spill my heart

Prussia blinked his tired red eyes open, he sat up fast, panting and out of breath. He reached up slowly and pushed his silver-white hair out of his face that was sticking to his forehead due to the fact that he had been sweating like crazy. This 'Awesome' country was constantly haunted by nightmares, bad nightmares, sometimes he would even wake up screaming for the Holy Roman Empire. He would just brush the dreams off as nothing, even when Germany rushed into the room. You see, Prussia currently lives with his brother Germany and if the dreams got bad enough, Germany would rush into the room to check on him. It had come to a point that "West", Germany, would check in on his brother every night before going into bed.

As years go by I race the clock with you
But if you died right now you know that I'd die to, I'd die too
You remind me of the times when I knew who I was
(When I knew who I was)
But still the second hand will catch us like it always does

Prussia slowed his breathing and closed his eyes momentarily, tears threatened to escape. Crying would be totally unawesome though. Quickly Prussia stood and yanked on his colorful red, yellow, and blue coat before opening his door. He wears a deep blue military uniform with an Iron Cross on his tie. Often he would pull his coat over his uniform. He didn't want to wake his dear brother Germany. As quietly as he could, he slipped down the stairs and into the kitchen. The house was quiet and dark, but Prussia had grown to get used to it. He walked towards the sink and cursed quietly in German when he stubbed his toe on one of the chairs. Now he froze, not moving an inch… listening. He didn't hear a thing which was good and meant that he hadn't wokenWest. With a sigh of relief, Prussia trudged painfully over to the sink and filled up a glass with water. Carefully he leaned against the counter and took a sip of water, letting his mind wander.

We'll make the same mistakes take the fall for you
Hope you need this now I know I still do

Flashback:

Prussia walked outside in search of the Holy Roman Empire. He often wandered off which made the awesome Prussia worry greatly. Thankfully, the child sat under a tree just outside of the house. This day in particular was quite sunny and warm, but not hot. There was a nice breeze and the grass stood healthily and bright green. The tree on the other hand was quite old but still stood tall and provided a nice amount of shade. A smile spread across Prussia's face and he squatted down in front of the blonde boy. "What are you reading?" he asked curiously and tapped the book in the boy's hands. The Holy Empire looked up and met Prussia's red eyes with his own blue ones, a smile spread across his face also. Prussia's smiles were always contagious and could always cheer him up. He held up the book. "Alice in Wonderland," he said sheepishly, his facing going a bright red color. Prussia laughed softly and nodded his head. "It isn't that bad of a book, a bit odd but not bad," he assured the embarrassed boy. Slowly he sat down cross legged and leaned back against the tree also.

"May I read it aloud to you? My awesome voice will make the story even more amazing," suggested the silver haired man as he lightly pushed on the boy's knee. The Holy Roman Empire laughed and handed over the book after kicking the German. Once Prussia sat down beside him, the Holy Roman Empire lightly rested his head against Prussia's shoulder. With a shake of his head, Prussia cleared his throat and started off where the child had left off. He gave each character their own voice and read with great enthusiasm. The boy couldn't help but smile more as he listened. With the nice day and Prussia's soothing, caring voice, the boy's eyes drifted shut and he fell asleep.

Prussia stopped reading for a moment and looked down at the Holy Roman Empire to see that he was fast asleep. He chuckled and his red eyes practically shined with happiness. "My reading is that bad huh?" he teased softly. He leaned down a bit and shook the boy's shoulders. Slowly his blue eyes open and he smiled sleepily. "Hey, if you are going to sleep, you can't sleep on the awesome me. We can go back into your house and you can sleep in there instead of out here, can't have you getting eaten alive by bugs," Prussia insisted. The boy laughed softly, not fully awake yet. He stood and watched as Prussia stood also, dusting himself off. The two headed back to the house and the boy grabbed Prussia's hand suddenly. "Prussia?" he asked urgently. The silver haired man blinked in surprise and turned to face the boy. "You promise you'll always take care of me right?" he asked. Prussia normally would have laughed and waved the question off but he seemed to be serious. A smile spread across Prussia's face and he drew an X over his heart with is finger. "I promise, I cross me heart and hope to die," he swore. He smiled then hugged the boy tightly. "I won't leave you," he told the boy.

End of Flashback.

Until the day I die
(Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you, for you
Until the day I die
(Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you

"What are you doing?" asked Germany as he stepped into the room, looking half asleep and exhausted. Prussia snapped out of his thoughts and looked up at his brother. "I was just getting the awesome me some water, did I wake you?" Prussia asked. Germany is a tall, muscular man, with blond hair and blue eyes, he wears either a green uniform with a Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on the collar. His blonde hair had yet to be slicked back into its usual neat form. "Pour me a glass of water," Germany told his brother and peered around their messy kitchen. While Prussia filled him up a cup of water, Germany picked up at book. "Thanks Bruder," Germany said and nodded before walking into the living room. Prussia tilted his head curiously. 'What is he reading? He doesn't like to read that much,' he though. Quickly Prussia drank the rest of his water then followed his brother into the living room. Carefully he leaned against the wall and watched his brother, wondering how long it would take West to notice him. "What are you reading?" Prussia asked finally.

Germany looked up from his book and held it up. "Alice in Wonderland," he said, looking slightly embarrassed. Prussia's red eyes widened in surprise and for a moment he saw the Hole Roman Empire instead of Germany. "R-Right," he sputtered, not yet over his shock. Germany made a face, not understanding why Prussia was acting weird. "Do… you want to go to the library?" Prussia asked finally. At first he wasn't sure if his brother had heard him because he seemed to just keep reading. At one point, Germany picked up a book mark and placed it in his book. "I already have a book… but fine.." he said, humoring his older brother. He shoved his feet into boots before standing. "Let's go," Germany said and rolled his eyes.

---

Should I bite my tongue until blood soaks my shirt?
Never fall apart so tell me why this hurts so much
My hands are at your throat and I think I hate you
But still we'll say, "Remember when"
Just like we always do, just like we always do

Prussia pushed the doors to the library open and stepped inside. "Hey West, what section do you want to look at fir…" he started but when he turned, his brother had already walked off. Prussia sighed and sadness was evident in his red eyes. The book shelves were line with many different genres of books, different colors.  "Never mind, the awesome me will just go by myself," he whispered and walked over to the history books. Lightly he ran his fingers over the spines of the books before pulling out the one he had wanted. He glanced about then lightly rested his forehead against the bookshelf.

Flashback:

"Hey, Holy Roman Empire? Did you find a book?" he shouted and walked out into the aisle with his book. He spotted the boy walking down the aisle with a book and grinned. Prussia walked by the Holy Roman Empire and gave him a high-five. The two of them would come here together all the time. The two of them laughed and he glanced back at the boy before continuing to walk. 'We are so close, I don't ever want to lose him' the German though as he moved some of his silver hair out of his face.

End Flashback.

Slowly Prussia opened his red eyes and peeked out into the aisle, just out of habit, to his surprise there was Germany. Prussia gulped and moved into the aisle, he held up his hand for a high-five like he had done many times before… Germany didn't even notice and just walked by. The silver haired man stopped and closed his eyes, not wanting to turn and see Germany walking away. 'Don't you remember..?' he thought warily. Reluctantly, he opened his red eyes and glanced back but Germany was already out of sight.

Until the day I die
(Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you, for you
Until the day I die
(Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you

Yeah I'd spill my heart
Yeah I'd spill my heart for you

---

Much later, when it had gotten dark, the two returned home together. "Hey Germany…" Prussia started but Germany had started to walk to his room. West glanced back at him, his blue eyes met his brother's red eyes. "I'm tired bruder," he said simply then stepped into his room to go to sleep. Prussia nodded in understanding and slowly sat down on the couch. "Right…" he said, feeling totally unawesome. Carefully he reached up and touched the cross that was now around his neck.

Flashback:

"Hey, Holy Roman Empire, I have a gift for you," Prussia said happily with a grin. The boy looked up at him in surprise but Prussia shook a finger in his face. "No, No, turn around. It's a surprise," he scolded the boy with a smile. Slowly the boy turned, a laugh escaping his lips. Once Prussia was sure the boy wasn't peeking, he pulled the necklace with a Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on it. Carefully he placed it over the boy's head and smiled even more as the boy took it in his hand and looked at it. "It's just like yours!" he cheered and looked up at Prussia. The man grinned and rubbed the back of his head. "Yeah, do you like it?" he asked. Instead of a answer, he got a big hug, meaning yes. "Thank you so much Prussia," the boy whispered.

End of Flashback.

My hands are at your throat I think I hate you
We made the same mistakes, mistakes like friends do
My hands are at your throat and I think I hate you
We made the same mistakes we made the same mistakes

Prussia stood up suddenly, desperate for old times and for any sign that Germany remembered his past as the Holy Roman Empire. He kicked off his boots then quietly walked into Germany's room. His brother was already fast asleep, snoring lightly. 'Why don't you remember?!' Prussia thought and covered his face with his hands. Reluctantly Prussia turned and left his room, going to his own. "I'm sorry Holy Roman Empire," he whispered and rubbed his temples.

Flashback:

"You promised to protect me but you won't leave me alone! I can do some things by myself! I can take care of myself!" the boy snapped. Prussia couldn't help but wince because of his tone. "I'm just trying to help. I can't help it if my awesome self is overprotective!" the silver hair man snapped back. He pointed a finger at the boy. "You know what?! Fine, go do whatever you want! See if I care," he said and threw his hands up in the air before turning and walking away. The boy frowned, near tears now. "Prussia!" the Holy Roman Empire called after him. He watched the German stop and turn to face him with a glare. When Prussia saw the sad, destroyed look on the boy's face though, his face softened. Tears escaped the boy's eyes and he quickly tried to wipe them away. "I'm sorry. That was really unawesome of me to lose my cool like that," Prussia whispered and walked back over to the boy. Gently he hugged the boy close to him. "Look, I'll keep my promise but I'll give you space," he assured the Holy Roman Empire as he drew and X over his heart with his finger. The boy smiled a little and returned the hug.

    "Thank you."

End Flashback.

---

The next day, Prussia decided to try and confront his brother. He peered around the quiet house; Germany was nowhere to be found. 'Training?' Prussia though and peeked out the kitchen window. Indeed Germany was outside, jogging laps around the house. A smile spread across Prussia's lips and he laughed softly. "You work too hard West," he said. He turned and walked outside, nearly being run over by his brother. "Germany wait!" he said as his brother started to go around him. The blonde German stopped and wiped sweat from his face, jogging in place. "What is it bruder?" he asked, panting a bit.

Prussia rubbed the back of his head, considering just how to go about the conversation. "You remember telling you a couple times that you used to be the Holy Roman Empire, right?" he asked. He knew his brother did because the blonde stopped jogging in place and his face became emotionless. "I'm not that little boy you used to know, I never was. You need to stop bringing it up," he hissed threateningly. Prussia narrowed his red eyes. "I know you are the Holy Roman Empire! You just don't remember bruder! We used to get along so well!" he yelled, frustrated. Germany took a step forward. "I am not that boy!" he yelled back, causing Prussia to take a step back and bump into the wall of their house. Germany wrapped a hand around his throat. "I think I hate you," he whispered, his blue eyes showed only anger towards his brother.

Prussia gasped, trying to breath. "Remember when I would read to you?" he said between gasps. Germany's blue eyes widened for a moment and slowly he released his brother's neck. He turned, not answering and left his brother. Prussia rubbed his neck warily. Slowly the silver haired man slid down the wall into a sitting position. He pulled his knees up to his chest and buried his face in them. 'Maybe I'm wrong… maybe he really is a completely different person' he thought.

Flashback:

"Hey idiotic aristocrat?! Where is the Holy Roman Empire?" Prussia asked the Austrian, hands on his hips. The boy had been sneaking to Austria's house to visit Chibitalia so he had assumed the boy was here when he wasn't home. Austria paused, his finger still on one of the piano keys. The one note echoed throughout the house. "He left a couple of minutes ago, I don't know where he would be now. Though I did warn him to be careful… France has been asking about him lately. I fear that the Holy Roman Empire might get hurt," he said honestly, trying to ignore the rude jab that Prussia had addressed him with. "F-France?" Prussia sputtered. France had become a pirate recently, who knew what he would do to the boy. "I-I have to go," Prussia said hurriedly. He turned and ran out of the house and into the field. "Holy Roman Empire?!" he shouted, fear obvious in his voice. 'Why did I give him more space?!' Prussia thought. He picked up his speed. "Hang on Holy Roman Empire! I'm coming!" Prussia shouted.

The blonde boy ran, gasping for air. He was exhausted but if he were to stop running, he'd be caught by the pervert pirate France. The cape the small boy wore was a fatal mistake because he stepped on it with his boot, causing himself to fall. France smirked and squatted down grabbing the boy by the shirt, he yanked him up. "Prussia!" the boy shouted and gasped when France wrapped an arm around his neck. The smile that spread across the Frenchman's face was not a friendly one. "Good Night Holy Roman Empire," France whispered. The boy looked towards the woods and spotted Prussia. He opened his mouth to shout but France had taken his sword out of its hilt and stabbed him in the stomach. The boy's blue eyes widened as France dropped him and simply walked away.

"Holy Roman Empire!" Prussia shouted, he was too late and way too slow. He ran with all his speed over to the boy and crouched down. "Hang on," Prussia encouraged the boy, close to tears. The Holy Roman Empire could barely keep his eyes open, he felt so sleepy. With what little strength he had left, he raised his hand to his chest and drew and X on it with his bloody finger. "No, No!" Prussia shouted, his red eyes widening. He knew he would lose the boy very soon. He watched as the boy's hand fell from his chest and down to his side. "No!" he screamed to the air. He broke his promise and lost the one person that meant the world to him.

End flashback.

Until the day I die

Until the day I die
(Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you, for you
Until the day I die
(Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you

Prussia raised his head from his knees and sighed. When something cold and wet hit his hand, he looked up at the sky, assuming that it was raining. There was not a cloud in the sky though; the sky was just a nice baby blue. 'Huh?' he thought and reached up to touch his face. Tears had escaped from his eyes. "Not awesome," he muttered but didn't wipe them away. He finally allowed himself to grieve.

---

It had been a whole week since Prussia had confronted his brother about the Holy Roman Empire. He still refused to believe that this was true and he still refused to talk to his brother. For a whole week, Germany would barely even glance at Prussia and this broke his older brother's heart. "West, let's go for a walk," Prussia suggested. Germany glanced up at him and sighed, slowly he stood and followed his brother outside into the field. The two walked, each glancing at each other every once and a while. 'What should I say to him? He's not talking to me,' Prussia thought and his red eyes met Germany's blue ones for a moment. Germany sped up his pace and started to walk faster, now ahead of Prussia. "I'm sorry Germany, I've failed you as a older bruder," Prussia whispered to himself since Germany was too far ahead to hear.

Prussia stopped walking for a moment and frowned, he had a feeling that him and Germany were being watched. He walked around and spotted a solider hiding in some nearby bushes… and in his hands he held a gun that was pointed at Germany. "Look out West!" Prussia shouted and ran forward with every ounce of speed he had. He held out his  hands and shoved Germany ahead of him, causing his brother to stumble a bit, but he was now out of harm's way. Germany reached into his coat and pulled out a gun, aiming it towards the soldier. Once he had a good aim, he shot and watched the man fall. "Thank you Prussia," he said gruffly.

He turned and saw Prussia lying on the grass, bleeding. His eyes widened. Prussia's face twisted in pain. "Until the day I die, I spill my heart for you," he whispered very quietly, his strength leaving him. Germany ran over and turned his brother over, gently supporting his head. "Idiot, you got yourself shot," he scolded his brother but in a soft, sweet manner rather than angry. His brother winced in pain as his brother moved him about. "Hang on Prussia. You're supposed to be awesome aren't you?!" he asked. Though his brother got on his nerves a lot, he still loved him. Prussia raised a bloody hand up to his chest and drew and X. "I promised you," he whispered and let his hand drop to his side. Germany shook his brother and unfamiliar memories filled his mind: Prussia reading him Alice in Wonderland, him and Prussia walking home together, Prussia giving him many hugs, the two of them running around, and Prussia being over protective. "I am the Holy Roman Empire… Prussia, you were right and I'm so sorry," he whispered.

He shook his brother again, trying desperately to get him to talk, say anything. Germany hugged his brother tightly and screamed because it was all too late. His brother had loved and cared for him, and all he had done in return was be rude and cold towards his brother. "I love you bruder.

I hope you never doubted that, thank you for taking care of me for all these years," he whispered and gently closed his brother's red eyes.
